Freedom from Torture

In 2019, we established a partnership with Freedom from Torture — a charity providing therapeutic care for survivors of torture who seek protection in the UK. We ran experimental photographic projects, led by artists Katie Miller and Laura Montag, who engage young people in playful and revealing activities around camera-less photography.

This was the first time I have participated in something like this.

I enjoyed particularly learning about scenography, which was really exciting. It made me feel I would like to continue to learn about photography in my spare time.  I would certainly like to do something like this project again, experimenting more with those sorts of ideas.

Since Freedom from Torture was established in 1985, over 57,000 survivors of torture have been referred to it for help. It is one of the world’s largest torture treatment centres.
